A New Ray of Hope in Hajjah: “Masam” Project Expands Mine Clearance Operations to Midi District

In a landmark step toward securing the lives of Yemenis and restoring stability to conflict-affected regions, the “Masam” humanitarian project for mine clearance is opening a new branch in the Midi district of Hajjah Governorate. This expansion marks a critical milestone in the ongoing efforts to eliminate the deadly remnants of war that continue to threaten innocent civilians across Yemen. Backed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and implemented by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, the “Masam” project stands as a symbol of hope and resilience, working tirelessly to pave the way for safe living conditions, reconstruction, and long-term peace.

Good news for the people of Hajjah Governorate and the Tehama region in general: the opening of a new branch of the “Masam” project for mine clearance in Midi, Hajjah.

We bring you joyful news, as preparations are underway at full speed to establish and open a branch of the humanitarian “Masam” project for mine clearance in the Midi area of Hajjah Governorate. This vital project aims to secure the lives of millions of Yemenis and is a pioneering Saudi humanitarian initiative, under the direct support of the Saudi leadership, the Kingdom’s government, and the King Salman Center. The project has been successfully led by Mr. Osama Al-Qusaibi since 2018, alongside a team of Saudi experts and some of the world’s top mine clearance specialists.

The “Masam” project has its main headquarters in Marib and Aden, and the Midi branch will become its third, reflecting the continuous expansion of the project’s efforts and the commitment of the wise Saudi leadership to pave the way for development and reconstruction phases. Reconstruction cannot proceed as long as mines remain buried in the ground. Over the past seven years, “Masam” has achieved a monumental accomplishment by clearing over 500,000 mines, explosive devices, and unexploded ordnance from vast areas of Yemen, stretching from the borders of Saada and Al-Jawf to Hays on the western coast.

The heroes of “Masam” have made significant sacrifices for this challenging mission, with over 30 experts and deminers martyred and more than 55 others injured or disabled while performing their humanitarian duty.

It is worth noting that the Midi area and the Tehama region have witnessed the planting of hundreds of thousands of mines by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia over the past decade of war. We are fully confident that the “Masam” project will continue its diligent and responsible work in Midi, across all areas of Tehama, and in every inch of Yemen until the last mine is cleared.
