Summary of the Meeting on the Yemeni Issue and the Dutch Government’s Assessment of the Yemeni Security File

The first meeting of the Administrative Body of the Yemeni Community was held on 27/10/2024 to discuss its work plan, focusing on key issues affecting members of the Yemeni community in the Netherlands. A significant portion of the discussion centered on the status of Yemeni refugees, asylum mechanisms, and the Dutch government’s evaluation of Yemen’s security file.

In the same context, a meeting took place on 11/11/2024 with Ms. Belhirch, a member of the Dutch Senate from the Democratic D66 Party. The meeting was attended by key representatives of the Yemeni community, including Mr. Nasser Al-Qadari, Secretary-General of the Yemeni Community Administrative Body in the Netherlands; Engineer Was Sharif, Public Relations Officer; and human rights activist Mr. Mohammed Al-Masoudi.

The main topics discussed during the meeting included:

  1. Humanitarian Situation: Emphasis was placed on the worsening humanitarian crisis in Yemen and the challenges faced by Yemeni citizens, especially regarding the refugee file and the security risks related to their status as refugees in the Netherlands.
  2. Yemeni Refugee Issues: Detailed discussions were held on the difficulties faced by Yemeni refugees, including asylum procedures, the security classification of Yemen, and administrative challenges affecting their daily lives in the Netherlands.
  3. Cooperation and Communication: Strengthening the relationship between Dutch institutions and the Yemeni community was highlighted, focusing on enhancing direct communication channels and improving cooperation in humanitarian and social areas.

Ms. Belhirch expressed great interest in the issues raised and committed to:

  • Studying the proposed solutions in detail.
  • Engaging with relevant authorities to explore the possibility of implementing the proposals.

It is noteworthy that Mr. Nasser Al-Qadari, President of the Yemeni-Dutch Center for Rights and Freedoms, Representative of the Alliance of International Organizations for Peace, and Vice President of the Yemeni-American Hands Organization, played a pivotal role in the discussions. He stressed the importance of continuous follow-up on the issues raised.

The meeting resulted in agreements on:

  • Forming a joint working group for follow-up.
  • Establishing a timeline for future meetings.
  • Developing mechanisms for direct communication and drafting a joint action plan for the upcoming steps.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to continuous communication and cooperation, aimed at achieving positive change that serves the interests of the Yemeni community. All participants expressed optimism about making tangible progress in the near future.
